શોલે ૧૯૭૫ની ૧૫મી ઑગસ્ટે રીલીઝ થઈ અને સતત પાંચ વર્ષ સુધી થિયેટર્સમાં ચાલી. આ ફિલ્મે હિન્દી સિનેમા ઉદ્યોગને એક નવી જ રાહ ચીંધી. આજ દિન સુધી બૉક્સ ઑફિસનું ગોલ્ડ સ્ટાન્ડર્ડ ગણાતી શોલે પ્રેક્ષકો અને સિનેમાજગત બંને માટે એક સીમાચિહ્ન સમાન છે. એનું સ્ટેટસ એક કલ્ટ ફિલ્મનું છે. જય, વીરુ, ગબ્બર, ઠાકુર, બસંતી, રાધા, કાલિયા અને સાંભા - અરે બસંતીની ધન્નો પણ - લોકકથાનાં પાત્રોની જેમ અમર થઈ ગયાં છે. ચાર લાઇનના એક કથાબીજમાંથી ભારતીય સિનેમાની સૌથી મોટી બ્લૉક-બસ્ટરનું સર્જન કેવી રીતે થયું તેનું રોચક વર્ણન ફિલ્મ પત્રકાર અનુપમા ચોપરા આ પુસ્તકમાં કરે છે. પ્રારંભમાં કલાકારોની પસંદગીની દિલચસ્પ વાતો છે. એ પછી રામનગરમ્‌ની ચટ્ટાનોની વચ્ચે બે વર્ષ ચાલેલા શૂટિંગનું રસપ્રદ વર્ણન છે, તો અંતમાં, આ બધા પરિશ્રમની ફલશ્રુતિ સમાન ફિલ્મને પહેલાં બે અઠવાડિયાંના અંતે દર્શકોનો અપેક્ષિત પ્રતિસાદ ન મળવાને કારણે સમીક્ષકો અને વિવેચકોએ કેવી રીતે ફ્લૉપમાં ખપાવી દીધી તેનું પણ વિશ્લેષણ છે. કાબેલ વાર્તાકાર અનુપમા ચોપરાનો રોચક અંદાજ આ પુસ્તકને શોલે જેટલું જ રોમાંચક અને મનોરંજક બનાવે છે. તમારે જાણવું છે કે જયના રોલ માટે રમેશ સિપ્પીએ ફ્લૅમ્બોયન્ટ શત્રુઘ્નની જગ્યાએ ઉપરાઉપરી દસ ફ્લૉપ ફિલ્મો આપનારા અમિતાભને કેમ પસંદ કર્યો? અથવા તો ડેટ્સની મુશ્કેલીને કારણે ડૅનીએ ગબ્બરનો રોલ કેમ છોડ્યો અને એની જગ્યાએ અમજદનું નસીબ કેવી રીતે ચમક્યું? તમને ખબર છે કે ધરમ-હેમાના ઊભરતા પ્રેમને કારણે સ્પૉટ-બૉય્ઝને કમાણી થતી અને એ જ પ્રેમ પ્રકરણને કારણે અમિતાભને જાનનું જોખમ થયું હતું? આ તમામ રોમાંચક હકીકતો વિશે જાણવા માટે દરેક ફિલ્મરસિકે આ પુસ્તક વાંચવું જ રહ્યું.
